“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up” – Picasso

Sunday when we woke up, the sun was out.  Well, not exactly when we woke up at the crack of dawn (thank you, Jaxon), but it came out soon.  The snow was melting!!!  Our church was cancelled due to the weather, so we had a very leisurely morning.

I decided that we had one more shot to get outside and play in the snow.  But this time it did not include building a snowman.  We decorated him instead!

By the time we got out there, mr. snowman was melting.  Poor guy lost his eyes and all but one tooth!  At least his nose was still intact!

I pulled out the food coloring, added water and….. we had a color palette to work with!  I love how you can see the reflection of the branches in the water!I wasn’t quite sure which instrument would work best, turns out the medicine droppers win hands down!

testing::

Super happy boy!  He kept saying “this is awesome mom”

An “I love you” original

enjoy the sampling:

Jax was getting thirsty so he took a break for a bite of clean snow…. gross!

Poor mr. snowman – he didn’t stand a chance:by the end, he was gone.  Jax and I couldn’t resist one more snow ball fight!

We were thinking of  cousin Zoe (her dad blogs here)

and of course, I was thinking of Joey:

We had a lot of fun painting the snow… Jaxon cannot wait to do it again.  I REALLY hope that opportunity is MANY months away!

Once we were done, we were of course freezing. While Jaxon rested and Joey cleaned our carpets, I whipped up some homemade potato soup!  Recipe coming soon!

I’m so thankful for my little boy!

A Goodwill Party and a stool

Sarah @ Thrifty Decor Chick is having a::

and I happen to have some cool finds!

I’ll post about one of my most recent finds. As mos of you know, Tracy and I do a lot of garage sailing and thrift hunting.

I’d been wanting a new step stool for Jaxon for a while. I was so happy to find this a few weeks ago::

Yes that’s right…  $1.00!!!

I took Jax w/ me to pick out a color for his new stool, we then went to “hobby wobby” to pick out some paper for the top.  Here’s what we came up with::

I simply painted and the adhered the paper, sanded a little and sprayed clear acrylic all over.
Here’s the finished product::
Total cost $5.00!!!
We love it!
So… If you have any thrifty makeovers, go and post now!  OR, just go look through the links for some great inspiration!
Here’s a pic of some more things I need to show you once I’m finished::
Happy Monday!

artwork display & an award

I’m not one of those mothers that saves every piece of paper my child has drawn on. Because I work full time, Jaxon goes to an in-home childcare with a lady that we go to church with. She teaches a cirrucilum and he loves it there. He started there when he was about 4 months old. Once he was around one he started bringing papers home! Needless to say – We have a LOT of papers from this kid and he’s only 3! If it is from a workbook I don’t save it – unless he has done something amazing on it. If it is on construction paper and involves paint, especially finger paint, it’s a keeper. Recently I weeded out some of the stuff we didn’t need to keep.
These are the ones that I decided I wanted to display:
They may not look like much but to me they’re little masterpieces!
This is how I decided to display them. I went to snapfish.com and made a 11×14 poster. I should get it in the mail this week. It was under $10.00 and I LOVE IT!!!

I’ll be sure to post a picture once it’s framed and hung!

Thanks to Carrie at Carrie’s sweet life…..I’ve been awarded my first blog award!

Thank you so much Carrie!!

I’ll be back with my list of who I will pass it on to!
Happy Thursday!

Ps. I am also working on some fabulous pumpkins…..I can’t wait to show you – tomorrow – so come back then!

I love these letters…

I’ve been looking at the “letter photography” for a while now. Most of what I’ve seen have been objects in nature or otherwise that are in the shape of any given letter. Most of the letters are abstract. Well, tonight I stumbled onto THIS GREAT SITE and ordered the above letters….I’m so happy at the price too. Some that I have seen are so pricey but come already matted and framed. I’d rather frame them myself anyway…so I’m SO happy and excited to get them in a few weeks. I’ll do a follow up post once I finish the project!
